The world's first Press Release was penned by Ivy Ledbetter Lee in 1906. His PR agency was working with the Pennsylvania Railroad, which had just suffered a tragic accident. Lee convinced the company to disclose information openly to the press, before they could hear 'other versions of the truth' from elsewhere. He used a press release to invite journalists and photographers to the scene and even provided their transportation.
